Mushy Farewell to Bowie Band

Yes, it's true! After 8 years of photos, football games, swimming parties, videos, contests and band trips, I am reluctantly stepping down after the 2009-2010 year. This year.

I have enjoyed the time I spent with Bowie Band students immensely, starting with my own children who each went through the music program at Bowie. I took over the duties back in early 2002 after Robert McCullough (the first Bowie Band Webmaster) indicated it was time for him to step down. The website underwent a radical transformation and at least one redesign that brings you to what you see today.more...

Bowie Webmaster Kelley Thompson - pictures from over the years... Thanks to Mike Mullen, Jens Jungmann and others who took these pics!

You have taught me so much! I learned much more about photography because I wanted every student to have “good” pictures of themselves and their friends so you could return in years to come to look at yourself and say “Whoooah! That was us, back then!” Something I wished someone had done for me when I was in high school...

I learned more about my job (I became a professional web designer about 11 years ago) by doing on the Bowie Band website and a bit about programming in Javascript and PERL (Birthday list and guest book), and so much more about HTML and CSS. And Flash movies on occasion.

I want to thank you all, every student I had the privilege of getting to know from 2002 to right now. Thank you for allowing me to photograph you even when you didn't really want me to. :) Thank you for accepting me as a part of the organization. And thank you for allowing me to vicariously re-live my wonderful memories of being in high school marching band with you. You are all so very talented and have such a high potential for success in life!

I hope to see someone take over the band website who loves marching band, band students and the music they make, the power of the combination of instruments whose face lights up when it's time to assemble the band on the field or in the streets. Are YOU that person?

Sincerely,
Kelley Thompson

Bowie Drumline

Winter Drumline production, “Circuit Overload”

The Bowie High School Spirit of the Volunteers proudly announces their 2009-2010 Winter Drumline production, “Circuit Overload.”  This year's show will be an “electrifying” musical experience.  The winter drumline will compete in the North Texas Colorguard Association’s Marching Percussion division this coming February and March.  Show design and drill is by Ms. Julie Woodbury and music is by Mr. Michael Moran.

The Bowie Winter Percussion program is the reigning NTCA Concert Percussion Champion for the 2008-2009 season and hopes to continue their success in the marching division.  Spots are still available for students who are paid up on their band fees and are willing to work hard!  See Mr. Moran for more information.
